Styrofoam facade decor: advantages and features

High-density foam architectural elements look prestigious and do not require time-consuming maintenance. They are suitable for all climates, regardless of humidity levels and average daily temperatures. The increased wear resistance of the facade decor is provided by a protective acrylic compound, which makes the products hard, while maintaining plasticity.

Unlike gypsum, wood and concrete, polymer-coated foam has the following characteristics:

  • moisture resistance and high thermal insulation performance;
  • minimal weight, which greatly simplifies installation and removes the restrictions associated with the low carrying capacity of other elements of the facade;
  • resistance to temperature extremes (polystyrene foam does not deform from heat and does not crack from cold);
  • flexible processing, so the foam can be shaped to any shape;
  • the ability to cut out bodies of revolution and solid shapes;
  • long service life (at least 15 years).

Stages of production of foam plastic facade decor

Decorative stucco molding for the facade is made using a unique technology with strict adherence to certain regulations. The production process looks like this:

  1. Project preparation. Our architects create a visualized project, choosing parts from a catalog or developing individual elements of the facade, taking into account the wishes of the customer.
  2. Ordering patterns. If the parts are not from our catalog, the patterns for them are made separately. We already have patterns for all decorative elements of our production, so you won’t have to wait.
  3. Submitting the project to the production hall. Facade details are cut on a plotter from solid blocks 1000X1000X2000 mm. The cutting is automated so that the dimensional accuracy is maintained down to the millimeter. We use exclusively high-density foam (19-20 kg / 1 m³), ​​which we order from trusted suppliers. A material with a reduced density (up to 15 kg / 1 m³) will not be strong enough. Plus, due to its high porosity, such foam expands when heated, which leads to cracking of the protective layer. Careful selection of raw materials is one of the keys to the excellent quality of our products!
  4. Broaching finished parts through a reinforcing machine. At this stage, the elements of the facade are covered with a protective polymer compound. We use Merolith D10f acrylic blend. Mixes from the Merolith company meet the most stringent requirements and quality standards. They have been tested in the climatic conditions of Ukraine, which cannot be boasted of reinforcement compositions from other manufacturers.
  5. Parts drying. Facade elements dry until complete polymerization of the protective In current conditions, there is an opinion that foam plastic is significantly inferior in its properties and characteristics to mineral wool for insulation. We hasten to expose this myth once and for all.The main weakness of the foam, noted by users, is the creation of a vapor barrier. In particular, the main complaint is that the material “does not breathe”. It should be noted that this factor, like the “theory of breathing” of walls in general, is highly controversial. So, the need for regular ventilation of industrial, and especially residential premises, has not been canceled. Therefore, professionals in the construction industry boldly say – forget about the “theory of breathing” and just follow the required ventilation standards. In this case, several positive goals are achieved at once:
    • – organization of a favorable microclimate;
    • – fresh air;
    • – compliance with sanitary and hygienic standards;
    • – removal of moisture from the room.

    The key distinguishing feature of foam from mineral wool is the lack of hygroscopicity. Due to its high density, this material practically does not absorb moisture. At the same time, mineral wool, when wet by 20%, loses more than half of its thermal insulation properties. Therefore, even a slight ingress of moisture can “nullify” the whole venture with insulation.

    In addition, the possibility of cladding buildings from the outside is one of the positive factors of using foam. Thanks to this insulation technology, the condensate is displaced. That is, it is neither inside the building, nor in the wall itself. And this means that the facade itself will not freeze and self-destruct.

    Thus, through the use of foam, a maximum of positive goals are achieved. Among them:

    • – durability of building walls;
    • – guaranteed heat preservation;
    • – comfort and no loss of internal space due to external cladding.
